British Red Cross Home from Hospital Service

Updated: Jul 16

The British Red Cross provide a Home from Hospital service to get you home from hospital, help you settle back in with a home care service tailored to fit your needs.

The Home from Hospital service supports those who live alone, are isolated from their family, friends or local community, have caring responsibilities, or where the carer is under pressure following the cared-for person’s discharge from hospital.

They offer weekly visits which usually take place over 4 weeks and provide:

  • Respite or companionship visits.

  • Confidence building - for example going on walks to help them build their confidence in their mobility or general encouragement with day-to-day tasks.

  • Building links with community and making friends - they have a list of services they can signpost you to and they use East Sussex 1Space.

The service does not provide personal care or domestic care.

How to access the service

There are two ways for you to refer to the service, you can either fill out the referral form and email it to saheastsussex@redcross.org.uk or you can call 01273 227800 and they can fill out the referral form over the phone.

A member of Red Cross staff or trained volunteer will visit to carry out an initial assessment to discuss your needs and wishes.
