How to get the Council to help with your bin collection

Updated: Jul 16

Do you drag your heavy bin out to the pavement each week? Well, if it is proving too much a quick call to the council could solve your problem - and spare your back.

Wealden District Council normally asks people to leave their bin near the roadside on collection day. But if you’re struggling you may be eligible for an assisted collection.

Who qualifies?

  • You can’t manage due to age or disability

  • There is no-one to put the bin out for you

Who doesn’t qualify?

  • People with exceptionally long drives

  • If you go away for long periods

How much does it cost?

It’s free.

How do I contact the Council?

You will have to fill out a form either online or over the phone by calling Wealden Council’s friendly customer service team on 01323 443322 between 9am and 5pm on Wednesdays and 8.30 to 4.30 every other weekday.

How do I apply online?

Step 1: Click on this link to sign up to your very own Wealden District Council account

Step 2: You will need to put in your contact details including your phone number and home address.

Step 3: Under 'Service Request' select 'Set up a new assisted collection' and answer the questions to whether you can move the bins yourself (probably not as you filling this form in) or Is there somebody else in the property who can move the bins.

Step 4: If you answer 'No' and 'No' then you may be eligible for the assisted waste service and press the 'next button" to proceed to the application form.

Step 5: Fill in the application by answering the following questions:

i. Household members

ii. Bin Details

iii. Property Details

vi. Further information on why you cannot collect you bin (note here medical history and any walking aids)

v. Declare that you are telling the truth

How long does it take once you submit the application?
